Netflix Talks Their 2023 Games Lineup Which Includes A Visual Novel And More

Netflix has announced a hot new lineup for Netflix Games, which includes more entries for their mobile publishing arm.

These include games based on their own IPs like Too Hot To Handle, a visual novel based on the Netflix series of the same name as well as titles like Monument Valley, re-released without in-app purchases.

Netflix VP of External Games Leanne Loombe has said that Netflix is happy with the progress they’ve made expanding into games so far, having published multiple titles on mobile.

“We are super happy”, she says. “We keep reiterating that we are early on our journey and we are not at the point where we expect 100% of our netflix members playing our games but with what we are seeing so far with the performance, we are super happy with and super proud of”.

“Certainly with some of our higher performing games like Too Hot to Handle, we continue to see that performance do over time. The more games we add to our portfolio, the more we get to see our members engage in these games. Very happy with the progress so far”, she adds.

With over 50 games already published and 70 more in development, Leanne says about 44 of those can be expected to come out this year.

Of course, while Netflix games are still limited by hardware, Leanne says they’re working to overcome that with cloud gaming- though don’t expect it any time soon.

“We did announce towards the end of last year that we are working on our own cloud streaming technology. So, that is underway. We’re very early on our journey but we are committed to making sure that these games can be played wherever you have Netflix, essentially”, she says.

“We do believe that cloud gaming will be able to provide us with that easy access to any screens and be frictionless and bring that accessibility to gaming experiences. We do want be super thoughtful on how we build that and how to bring it to our members, so just like we doing for mobile games, we will take it slow, form a learning perspective but that is definitely underway and our global vision is that our members can play games on any Netflix device that they have”, she adds.

Too Hot To Handle: Love Is A Game

Based on the Netflix series of the same name, this visual novel sports episodic content and a robust character creator to immerse yourself in the original show’s setting. It’s available now to play, with Netflix even having the cast try the game out.

Mighty Quest Rogue Palace

A roguelite based on the Mighty Quest IP, Rogue Palace is the next Ubisoft title being published by Netflix Games following Valiant Hearts: Coming Home. It sports isometric gameplay as you crawl through the game’s dungeon, and comes out on April 18th.

Monument Valley

Monument Valley 1 and 2 are also coming to Netflix in 2024, according to María Sayans, CEO of ustwo Games. These will sport the full content of the titles, letting you solve platforming puzzles to your heart’s content.

Unannounced Super Evil Megacorp Title

Netflix also had another big surprise- a game developed by Vainglory developers Super Evil Megacorp. They were very tight on details regarding the upcoming release, only confirming that it would be based on a “Future IP”. Super Evil Megacorp CEO Kristian Segerstale did confirm it would feature team-based gameplay, though did not directly say that it would be another MOBA:

“The reason we are excited about it is because it allows us to build what we are really great at – team based fluid combat with friends – but then also lets us collaborate with Netflix for our narrative. While building, it’s like an incredible universe being built out and we are just excited about it”, he says.

Netflix Games are fairly straightforward- mobile users can simply download the games off their app stores, and only need a Netflix account to log in and access the game.
