The Pokemon Youtube Channel has released a new video counting all 1008 species of Pokemon over the 9 generations of the series.

While 1008 different Pokemon is quite the achievement, we should also keep in mind the video doesn’t even list the various alternate forms that many pokemon have like Mega Evolutions and Regional variants, many of which can be considered distinct pokemon in their own right. There truly is a pokemon design for everyone.

The video goes especially far to highlight Gholdengo, the evolution to Gimmighoul, and the 1000th pokemon recorded in the national dex.

“Gimmighoul evolves into Gholdengo when it levels up after its Trainer has collected 999 Gimmighoul Coins. Apparently, this lively and cheerful Pokemon’s body is made of a thousand coins. It is friendly to both people and Pokémon”.

“Gholdengo functions by controlling the coins that comprise its body, and it even uses them as weapons in battle. The coins are densely packed, making Gholdengo durable. It can absorb impacts and lessen the damage it takes by letting coins fly off from areas hit by enemies. Gholdengo can attack by firing coins from anywhere on its body.”

The latest games in the Pokemon series, Scarlet and Violet are currently available for Nintendo Switch.
