Over at the Capcom booth for Tokyo Game Show 2022 that is currently happening this week, we had the opportunity to try out the MegaMan Battle Network Legacy Collection preview.

So for those who are unfamiliar with the MegaMan Battle Network Legacy Collection, it’s actually a title which includes all 10 of the mainline games from the MegaMan Battle Network series:

• MegaMan Battle Network
• MegaMan Battle Network 2
• MegaMan Battle Network 3 Blue
• MegaMan Battle Network 3 White
• MegaMan Battle Network 4 Red Sun
• MegaMan Battle Network 4 Blue Moon
• MegaMan Battle Network 5 Team Protoman
• MegaMan Battle Network 5 Team Colonel
• MegaMan Battle Network 6 Cybeast Gregar
• MegaMan Battle Network 6 Cybeast Falzar

And while the collection offers 10 titles, the preview that we got to try out over at Tokyo Game Show only had offered 4 title which were:  MegaMan Battle Network 1, 2 , 3 Blue and 3 White. From my time of playing, I was able to choose between the different titles that I could play through the main menu so it was certainly nice to see some of the familiar titles from my childhood in this day and age.

Another cool thing to note is that the Legacy collection will also be implemented, though more information about this will be announced at a later date, so be sure to anticipate it.

From my time of playing, there wasn’t any different in terms of the gameplay so it was a nice experience that I get to relive the past childhood. But there was one major difference that was present in the legacy collection, which was the improvements to the graphics. The graphics forgoes the original pixel aesthetic to make the game look more modernised which is pretty neat.

Although, if you really want to fully recreate the authentic feel of playing through the Battle Network titles, there’s a cool feature that allows you to turn a filter off  from the settings which allows you to make the game look Pixelated, making the game have this retro-feeling that really makes you reminiscent the good old days of coming back from a long day of school while you hide under your bedsheets to play MegaMan on your Gameboy Advance.

In addition to the filters, the game also lets you swap between the border pictures as well as adjusting the screen size which is always an appreciative quality of life improvement.

All in all, it was an enjoyable experience playing through the classic MegaMan Battle Network titles and I’m definitely looking forward to the Legacy collection which will be released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam in 2023.
