Capcom Announces They Won’t Be UK Commentators For Capcom Pro Tour, Prompting Fan Outrage

Fans and commentators are equally upset by Capcom’s apparent decision to disallow UK-based commentary for the Capcom Pro Tour this year.

Commentator WSO Logan made the announcement today, expressing his disappointment with the decision considering a leg of the Capcom Pro Tour even takes place in the UK, but would still disallow UK-based commentators.

“Just been told that you will not see any UK based commentators on any of the CPT broadcasts this season. Including the UK & Ireland event May 7th”, he says.

“What a way to see out competitive Street Fighter V. We went from this photo to nothing at all Words can’t express my disappointment“.

It should be noted that Capcom themselves have not issued a statement on the matter- the official Capcom Fighters Twitter only talks about registrations for the various qualifiers of the Pro Tour.

Commentators have developed their own followings as well- so the likelihood that fans might not see their favorites at the Capcom Cup has drawn some outrage from them as well.

“Not to disrespect commentators from there but Capcom really gotta realise that people can talk about fighting games WITHOUT being from SoCal”, writes one fan, Emily. “I swear every single commentator they pick is from there It’s kind of absurd when even the UK events are being commentated by Californians”.

It’s not just UK-based people either. US-based commentator Stephen “Sajam” Lyon also weighed in, hoping for Capcom to reverse the decision following fan backlash.

“You hate to see it, but I also don’t find this surprising in the slightest. Hopefully the response from people helps change their mind”.

This is just another step in the rocky relationship between fans and Capcom over professional Street Fighter, after Capcom recently announced licensing guidelines for hosting your own local events.
