Kazuhisa Wada confirmed that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (P4AU) will definitely get rollback netcode, after previously saying they were considering it in a future update.

“We’re planning on releasing [rollback netcode] in summer this year, so please look forward to it”, he says.

Based on the description of the YouTube video, however, it looks like this version will only be coming to the PS4 and PC versions of the game, meaning the Nintendo Switch version will still be operating on delay-based netcode.

This is great news for people who’d been eager for P4AU to have rollback netcode- many fans believed that the previous comments about the game getting it in a future update were just lip service due to the overwhelming nature of the “no rollback no buy” sentiment.

Rollback netcode is fast becoming a must-have feature for fighting game releases- Capcom committed to it hard with the announce of their re-release collection featuring titles like the entirety of the Darkstalkers series, all using the network solution.

Considering the beloved nature of P4AU among fighting game fans, this is a good sign for them- the game can finally be played on current gen consoles, and improved network features means it could see more community support with an improved online tournament scene.

We’ve already seen this in the past with Arc System Works’ commitment to adding rollback netcode to their older games- currently Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus R and Blazblue Centralfiction sport the netcode, as well as Blazblue Cross Tag Battle getting it just this week.
