Fans are upset as Elden Ring launches on PC, citing the game’s poor optimization as getting in the way of them playing the hotly anticipated title.
At the time of writing the game is sitting at a Mixed reviews on Steam, with many angry comments explaining how the game just isn’t well optimized for their rigs.
“Elden Ring on PC is a technical mess and I can’t recommend it.”, writes one Steam user.
The biggest complaint seems to be an issue of frame stuttering- the game’s open world takes a massive bite out of most PCs, making the experience unpleasant for players.
“Struggling to maintain 60FPS/1080p on a 3080, massive stuttering and drops to the mid 20s, crashed 4 times within 2 hours of game time, 60 FPS cap, and no ultrawide support”, writes another user.
Fans had been nervous about Elden Ring releasing on PC since the game published its minimum specs, which were on the same level of grandeur as titles like Red Dead Redemption 2.
Sadly, anyone who’s played one of From Software’s souls games on PC should be familiar with this PC launch issue. The games are notoriously poorly optimized on PC, with Dark Souls 1 having required a mod on its original release to be anywhere near playable.
Similarly Dark Souls 2 also had huge issues, such as item durability being tied to framerate, meaning that if you played the game on a high framerate your items would degrade faster.
