The Elden Ring community isn’t taking the news of the game’s PC Specs too well, after the game came out with some lofty minimum recommended specs.

The much-requested requirements to run on the game were nothing to really laugh at- at minimum it needs a 6-core processor, as well as 12GB of ram, basically knocking out any kind of casual everyday use laptop and some older models from any contention.

“Its very annoying that specs in my pc is totaly recommended in sekiro from 2019. 3 years later is below minimum requirements in elden ring (sic)”, writes redditor Kubix_778.

Some fans took the opportunity to complain once again about the visual look of Elden Ring, claiming it doesn’t meet their expectations despite having requirements on par with Red Dead Redemption 2.

“Sekiro ran perfectly, even better than dark souls 3 and it looked better as well, this is why im shocked with the system requirements of Elden Ring”, writes another redditor, Music4Game. “Lke jesus, 12 gb of ram and that cpu, its the first game that I see that requires that on minimum and tbh the game doesnt look that amazing, still georgeous yes, but not thaat much to warrant those specs (sic)”.

It’s no surprise that Elden Ring would sport the higher specs than its predecessor despite the fact it shares so much architecture with Dark Souls 3. Open world games are much more power-hungry than the more narrow corridors of the typical Souls games, and the seamless transitions means your rig would need to be able to handle it all without loading screens getting in the way.

That being said, it does highlight some ethical issues- fans had been wanting Elden Ring and asking about its PC specs for weeks now, to which From Software only responded last night, a little more than a week out from its launch. From a certain angle, the idea of not announcing restrictive specs only after people have been pre-ordering the game only to find out they may not be able to run it can seem suspicious on their part.

It does also highlight the benefit of Console gaming- while it won’t hit the highs of a PC version, simply having a PS4 or PS5 means you’ll be enjoying the optimal experience for that platform.
