The scenario writer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, as well as the writer for FFVIII and FFX, Kazushige Nojima, has been getting harassed on Twitter, and now he is putting his foot down.

The writer says he will no longer talk about his new or upcoming games on social media.

On January 16th, 2022, Nojima posted a tweet saying that he thinks his personal remarks could negatively affect products and fans’ enjoyment, and as such has decided to no longer discuss the games he’s working on with fans online.

現在進行中の仕事だけではなく、発売後のものについても、私の個人的な発言が商品の価値やファンの方々の楽しみを損なってしまう可能性を思わずにはいられません。その結果、黙して語らずが妥当であると、今は考えています。守秘義務以前の、個人的なTwitterへの接し方として、です。

“I can’t help but think that my personal remarks could undermine the value of the product and the enjoyment of the fans, not only in the work that is currently underway but also in the post-launch ones. As a result, I now think that it is appropriate not to speak silently. As a personal way of dealing with Twitter before confidentiality.”

He has also clarified that he is still going to be using Twitter, but only to upload photos of guinea pigs. But for games like Final Fantasy VII Remake, he’s out.

There seems to be a slight misunderstanding, so I’ll add to it. I’m not going to stop using Twitter. I will continue to upload photos of guinea pigs. But I’m going to stop talking about specific games I’m a part of, such as FF7R. https://t.co/ND3GTyx5xk

It is sad that Nojima feels this way however if he thinks this is for the best then we support his choices. Several replies to these tweets from Final Fantasy fans have likewise spoken in support of Nojima and thanked him for his work on the series.

FF7 changed so many lives for the better and keeps on doing so with FF7R.
