Internet Gaming New site IGN made their own game to celebrate their 25th Anniversary called IGN 25: The game.

It has been released for free as a Web Game. IGN’s announcement article cheekily declares the game will be released for free with no microtransactions as a Web Game. You can play it right now at this link.

The game is an action platformer where one controls Iggy the D-Pad (I never actually realized that IGN’s logo was meant to be a d-pad) as he goes on adventures through 25 years of entertainment history and references.

IGN describe is as:

A love letter to video games and entertainment, IGN 25: The Game is a 2D platformer staring IGN’s anthropomorphic d-pad, Iggy, in their very first video game appearance. Beginning in 1996, they will journey through the launch of the Imagine Games Network sites that started it all — N64.com, Saturnworld.com, and PSXPower.com — and continue through key moments in IGN’s history.

The was made over the course of a year with Unity Engine. Iggy has 35 unique animations and is able to wear 15 different costumes or ‘alter logos’. It’s supposed to be a fairly casual platformer that can be played more than once.

I suppose after years of criticizing games and being told by comments to make their own games if they think they’re so good, IGN has now decided to follow suit.
