Microsoft is making Xbox Cloud Gaming available to more users by bringing the service to lower-priced Game Pass plans. Starting today, Xbox Insider program members can test a new beta version of Xbox Cloud Gaming. This test allows people with Xbox Game Pass Core or Standard subscriptions to stream games through the cloud for the first time.
Right now, cloud gaming is only available to subscribers of the most expensive Game Pass tier – Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which costs $20 per month. The new beta test changes this by letting users with cheaper plans try cloud streaming.

Xbox Insiders with Game Pass Core or Standard will also get a new feature during this test – they can stream PC versions of certain games. More details about this beta are available on the Xbox website.
This news comes just days after Xbox suggested they might create a “more affordable” cloud gaming service. Microsoft has been looking into different options, including a separate cloud gaming service that could use ads to keep costs down.

Jason Ronald, Microsoft’s VP of Next Generation, talked about these plans recently. He explained that many Game Pass Ultimate users rely on cloud gaming either as their main way to play or to game while traveling.
“I think for us, it really opens up the opportunity to make it much more affordable, and make it more accessible to players,” Ronald said. “Whether that’s going into new regions, or new ways to actually access the [Xbox] cloud.”
