The Duskbloods, the upcoming multiplayer title set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, has reportedly been in development at FromSoftware longer than any previous game from the studio, according to recent leak information.
A Chinese journalist who previously shared accurate details about Elden Ring before its 2022 release has claimed that The Duskbloods was approved for development even before Sekiro’s marketing campaign began. The journalist stated that the game has spent more time in gameplay prototyping and testing than any other FromSoftware title.
According to the translated leak from Ziostorm, the source reported: “From what I know, The Duskbloods was greenlit even earlier than the marketing period for Sekiro’s release. It is the FromSoftware title that has spent the longest time purely on gameplay prototyping and validation among all of their games so far.”
The game, which is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, will feature both PvE and PvP elements. The leak suggests the development team has included several new gameplay mechanics they consider innovative, though specific details have not been revealed. The source also indicated the game could be as influential as Sekiro, which introduced its distinctive enemy-marking combat system when it launched in 2019.
The leak explains that FromSoftware has kept details about The Duskbloods limited while focusing on Elden Ring: Nightreign, the studio’s other multiplayer project. According to the source, more information about The Duskbloods will become available after all Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC content releases on December 7th.
The Duskbloods is described as a PvPvE online game featuring vampire-themed Dusksworn characters. The game currently has a release window of 2026, with no specific date announced. The Switch 2 version of Elden Ring has been delayed to next year.
Some FromSoftware fans have expressed hesitation about the game’s multiplayer focus, as the studio is better known for its single-player experiences like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. However, the extended development time and reported innovation may indicate a more substantial project than initially expected.
