Co-director Tai Yasue and the mastermind behind the series, Tetsuya Nomura, reassured fans that they’re standing by the 2027 release window of Kingdom Hearts 4.
‘I saw online that some people were saying the release date might still get pushed back. I want to set the record straight: That is not happening,’ Nomura stated. He also reiterated that more information about the game will be revealed leading up to the release window.
‘I do hope that people do look forward to the game coming in 2027. A lot of the marketing for the game has only just started, and so I do hope that people also look forward to hearing more news as well.’
Nomura also shared that the team has several plans underway, especially with the 25th anniversary of the franchise approaching.
Meanwhile, Yasue doubled down on Nomura’s statement, stating that he’s confident with the original launch date. The co-director stated, ‘It’s not like an 80%, 90% – it’s a 100% thing. We’ll be there in 2027 for sure.’
Aside from the planned release window, the latest Kingdom Hearts 4 clips at D23 showcased more fast-paced combat gameplay with Sora. Fans were also delighted to see that OG party members, Goofy and Donald Duck, will finally be playable.

The trailer strongly focused on the addition of Coco into the Kingdom Hearts world. Also, fan-favorite Riku and classic villain Maleficent were announced to return in the fourth game.
Outside of games, the D23 panel surprised fans with a Kingdom Hearts animated series for Disney+. Furthermore, Disney Animation Chief, Jared Bush, stated that a KH movie isn’t off the table.

Followers of the franchise have reasonable worries, with the second and third installments having a 13-year gap. As Kingdom Hearts 3 is now in its eighth year, it’s great to hear from the creators themselves that players won’t have to wait for the next installment too long from now.
