Square Enix announced on March 2 that it has taken action against the administrator of a Japanese gaming news aggregator blog called Netoge Sokuhō previously known as “FF14 Sokuhō” after the site published content that damaged the reputations of the company’s executives and employees.
To identify the blog’s anonymous admin, Square Enix filed a request with the site’s hosting provider asking for their personal information. The provider agreed to hand over the details, which allowed Square Enix to make direct contact with the person behind the site. The two sides eventually came to a settlement, with the admin agreeing to three things: publish a public apology, shut down the blog, and pay an undisclosed sum to Square Enix.

Square Enix included a link to that apology in its announcement. In it, the Netoge Sokuhō administrator acknowledges the blog will be closing soon and states that the articles in question were not intended to harm any specific organization or individuals, while expressing sincere apologies for any concerns caused.
Square Enix says this action is consistent with its Group Customer Harassment Policy, which the company put in place in January 2025. That policy was introduced in response to what the company described as growing instances of harassment directed at its staff — including defamation, threats, and other behavior that affected their sense of safety at work.

In its announcement, Square Enix made clear this will not be an isolated response. The company stated it will continue to take strict action, up to and including legal measures, against anyone who targets specific individuals or engages in harassment that threatens the safety or mental well-being of its staff, with the goal of maintaining a healthy work environment.
