Bloodborne remains one of FromSoftware’s most iconic and personal games, and its creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has opened up about why it continues to hold a special place in his heart. Speaking with Game Informer, Miyazaki explained that Bloodborne reflects his unique design sensibilities more than any other title in his career.
A Personal Creation

Miyazaki described Bloodborne as “a special game” because of the deeply personal influence he had on every aspect of its development. From the story to the world-building, game mechanics, and systems, he says he “imparted a lot of my own ideas into this game.” This hands-on involvement resulted in what he calls “the strongest reflection of my type of flavoring of a game that one can experience.”
Challenging Development

Part of what makes Bloodborne meaningful to Miyazaki is the difficulty the studio faced during its creation. He revealed that it was “probably the most challenging development cycle we’ve had from a studio perspective.” Despite these challenges, the game went on to receive critical acclaim, marking a high point for FromSoftware prior to Elden Ring’s release.
Cult Following and Continued Popularity

Bloodborne has maintained a dedicated fanbase, in part because it remains a PS4 exclusive. Unlike other FromSoftware titles, it has yet to receive a PlayStation upgrade, PC port, or a proper 60fps patch. Miyazaki acknowledged the community’s desire for a remake or sequel, admitting he was “very happy” that so many people wanted to see the game return, but hinted that his personal connection to the project might be a reason progress has been slow. Former Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida suggested that Miyazaki might be too “busy” to oversee a remake and prefers that no one else handles the project.
Legacy of Yharnam

Ten years on, Bloodborne’s haunting city of Yharnam remains a benchmark for atmosphere in video games. Its oppressive architecture, layered world-building, and intense gameplay continue to captivate players. While upcoming games like The Duskbloods on Nintendo Switch 2 may explore similar tones, a true sequel or remake of Bloodborne is still eagerly awaited by fans worldwide.
Looking Ahead

Miyazaki’s reflections on Bloodborne underscore why it has left such a lasting impact. Its personal significance to the creator, combined with the challenges overcome during development, helps explain the game’s enduring appeal. Fans can only hope that in the near future, Miyazaki might find the time to revisit Yharnam, either through a sequel, remake, or updated port, giving both longtime and new players the chance to experience his vision on modern platforms.
