We’ve already covered most of what you need to know about Pokémon GO in the previous Part 1 and Part 2, including Pokémon tier lists and item tips. Now we’ll be covering the spawn locations for you to better your chances in meeting specific type Pokémon.
Here are some basic tips to catch Pokémon:
Finding Rare Pokémon
- Trainer Level: Higher level trainers will have a higher chance of meeting high CP Pokémon.
- Popularity: Pokémon have higher spawn rates where there are more Pokémon GO users.
- Time & Location: You can increase your chance/spawn rate of certain Pokémon at specific locations and times.
Increasing Your Chance to Catch Pokémon
- Land the Pokéball inside the circle ring that shrinks. Wait until the ring inside the circle is smaller to increase your chance of catching the best Pokémon.
- The target ring colors ranges:
Ring Color Capture Rate
Green – 100%
Yellow – 65%
Orange – 35%
Red – 25%
- Capture Rate Modifier:
Curve Ball: TBD
Excellent Throw: 1.5
Great Throw: 1.3
Nice Throw: 1
Razz Berry: 1.5
Great Ball: 1.5
Ultra Ball: 2.0
- Factors that affect catch rate:
Type of Pokéball used
Where Razzberry was applied
Spinning your Pokéball
- The AR function of the game can cause wild Pokémon to jitter around, making it difficult to catch Pokémon. Turning it off keeps the Pokémon relatively still, making throws more accurate with a higher chance to catch it.
Pokémon Spawn Location
Certain Pokémon can be caught in specific locations and climates. Below lists the likely locations Pokémon will be found. Varies in each region.
If you’d like to see it in picture form, scroll down to the end of the page.
|Pokémon Types (General Spawn Rate %)||High Spawn Rate Locations|
|NORMAL (34%)||Parking lots, cities, university campuses, gas stations, near suburbs, grass, lakes, and parks. Mostly will spawn anywhere in any climate.|
|POISON (11%)||Industrial areas have higher spawn rate.|
|BUG (13%)||Most often found near grass, lakes, cities, parks, and usually in “grassland” or “coastal” climates.|
|GRASS (5%)||Grass types like to hand out predominantly (surprise) where there is grass: golf courses, and parks, or near beaches. Available in all climates, but most predominant in grassland areas.|
|WATER (10%)||Most likely encountered on the coastline. Also near rivers, lakes, ponds, docks, wetlands, beaches, or parks with ponds.|
|GROUND (6%)||Common in arid climates, but sometimes found around the suburbs, in parks.|
|FIRE (7%)||Common in arid and dry climates, sometimes even found at the beach, mostly found on farmlands and cities.|
|FIGHTING (4%)||Will spawn almost anywhere in suburbs and near parking lots, though not definitive, and in stadiums, gyms, and sports centers.|
|ROCK (4%)||Most likely in farmland areas. Also can be found largely in West-coast areas, suburbs and parking lots.|
|FAIRY (2%)||Largely found in the suburbs of grassland communities as well as beach towns and landmarks. Unconfirmed, but seems to spawn more frequently in the evening.|
|ELECTRIC (2%)||Higher spawn rates around local college campus or Universities.|
|PSYCHIC (2%)||You can find a lot in grassland areas, and higher-level Psychics can be found near the beach. They spawn in hospitals as well.|
|GHOST (0.5%)||No evidence to suggest Ghost types spawn more frequently at cemeteries, but often found in parking lots and have much higher spawn rate at night.|
|DRAGON (?)||Dragon types are rare, and have been spotted near river water. Tends to have higher spawn rate near golf courses and landmarks.|
|ICE (1%)||Mainly found near water and ski resorts, however, if you’re lucky enough to live in a very cold climate, the spawn rate for ice Pokémon should be higher.|
What about Legendary Pokémon?
Sadly, Legendary Pokémon are not available yet. Niantic will probably introduce them in the future as the game grows.
However, there are some Pokémon that are region-specific (or spawn more often in specific regions):
Farfetch’d – Asia | South Korea | Kyoto Japan
Kangaskhan – Australia
Mr. Mime – Europe | Netherlands, Dordrecht, Eindhoven | Germany | England, UK
Tauros – USA | North America, Utah, Maryland, California, Massachusetts, Michigan, Texas | Northern Mexico | Ontario, Canada
That’s all for our guide to Pokémon GO! Now you’re ready to venture the world and catch all the Pokémon. Remember to be attentive to your surroundings and be safe when playing Pokémon GO. All the best, Trainer!
Don’t miss out on the fun!
