Square Enix might be preparing to bring Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. According to VGC, producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed that the company has already held “positive discussions” with Nintendo about the possibility.

Expanding Final Fantasy to More Players

Yoshida emphasized that his ultimate goal is to make both titles accessible to as many players as possible. Moreover, while he stopped short of making an official announcement, he hinted that the Switch 2 could become the next home for these massive RPG experiences.

Why Switch 2 Could Work for FFXIV

According to Yoshida, the portable format of the Switch 2 fits neatly into players’ daily routines. For example, existing Final Fantasy XIV players might use the handheld for lighter content such as gathering and crafting. Meanwhile, they could reserve more demanding activities like raids for PC or console.

Additionally, Yoshida explained that the Switch 2 might help introduce younger audiences to MMOs for the first time. As a result, the platform could further expand the game’s community.

A New Audience for FFXVI

Yoshida also mentioned Final Fantasy XVI as part of his vision. The game is not an MMO, but its single-player format could also benefit from reaching a wider base of players. In fact, bringing both titles to Switch 2 would show Square Enix’s intent to strengthen the franchise across multiple platforms.
