Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware have delayed Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game was originally planned for 2025 but will now launch in 2026.

FromSoftware said it needs more time to improve the game’s performance. The studio explained that optimizing Elden Ring for the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware requires additional development and testing. The team aims to deliver a version that runs smoothly while maintaining the game’s scale and visual quality.
Adapting a Masterpiece for New Hardware

First released in 2022, Elden Ring became one of the most acclaimed action RPGs of all time. Its massive open world, rich lore, and intense combat earned praise from both fans and critics. Bringing such a large-scale experience to the Nintendo Switch 2, a hybrid console, poses unique challenges.
The developers are working to balance performance with visual detail and portability. This marks FromSoftware’s first attempt to bring Elden Ring to Nintendo hardware, and fans are eager to see how the studio will recreate the vast Lands Between on the new platform. This game serves as an intermediary for FromSoftware fans as they wait for their upcoming title The Duskbloods to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Elden Ring Remains Strong Across Other Platforms

While Nintendo Switch 2 players will have to wait longer, Elden Ring continues to thrive elsewhere. The base game and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion are available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
The game’s strong community and ongoing support have kept it alive years after release. FromSoftware’s delay suggests a commitment to quality over speed, ensuring the Nintendo Switch 2 edition meets the high standards fans expect from the studio.
