A special live stream for the long-running RPG series Dragon Quest is planned for May 27, according to series creator Yuji Horii. The broadcast will coincide with the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations and may finally include news on the next mainline entry.

Horii revealed the information during a recent episode of the KosoKoso broadcast, stating that the upcoming stream will include “an announcement about the next game,” along with additional updates tied to the series’ anniversary.

Possible Reveal For The Next Dragon Quest Game

While Horii did not directly confirm which title will be shown, the wording has immediately sparked speculation that Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate could finally reappear.

The game was originally revealed during the Dragon Quest 35th anniversary live stream in 2021 and has remained largely silent since its announcement. No major updates or trailers have been released, making it one of the most anticipated upcoming RPGs from Square Enix.

During the same 2021 broadcast, multiple projects were revealed, including Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, Dragon Quest Treasures, and Dragon Quest X Offline. All of those titles have since launched, leaving Dragon Quest XII as the only major announcement still awaiting further details.

The upcoming broadcast will mark the 40th anniversary of Dragon Quest. Square Enix has not officially confirmed the stream at the time of writing, but past patterns suggest an announcement is likely imminent.
