Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone will be shutting down on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year, with the game also set to be pulled from digital storefronts soon. The shutdown is tied to the launch of Modern Warfare 4, the next entry in the Call of Duty series. Modern Warfare 4 will only be available on current-generation hardware, specifically PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, making it the first mainline Call of Duty in years to skip last-gen consoles entirely.
Starting June 4, Warzone will be removed from the PS4 and Xbox One digital stores and in-game purchases will no longer be available. However, players who already have the game installed can still play it and unlock battle pass content up until Modern Warfare 4’s Season 1 launches. Once Season 1 goes live, Warzone will stop working on both platforms entirely.

Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23, with Season 1 following shortly after. Activision described it as the start of “a major year of content and seasonal experiences.” As with past entries, Warzone will carry over progression and content from the premium game for players on supported platforms.
The game was officially revealed through an Activision livestream, where developer Infinity Ward confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 will be set in Korea, with a tone described as “gritty” and “authentic.” The three main modes returning are campaign, multiplayer, and DMZ. Activision called it “a new technical benchmark” for the franchise, built exclusively for the latest generation of hardware.
For anyone still on PS4 or Xbox One, June 4 marks the last date to make any purchases related to Call of Duty: Warzone on those platforms before the game begins its wind-down period.
