Sony is giving fans another chance to grab an Astro Bot–themed DualSense controller. The first version sold out last year and quickly became a collector’s item. Now, a slightly updated model is returning this October.
On September 2, after teasing it back in July, PlayStation confirmed the “Joyful” edition of the Astro Bot controller. It officially launches on October 30, 2025, with pre-orders starting September 12 at 10 a.m. local time through the PlayStation online store and select retailers.

A Familiar Controller With a Small Change

This isn’t a total redesign of the 2024 model, but it does make one subtle adjustment. The first Astro Bot DualSense showed wide-open eyes on the touchpad, which many players found a little unsettling. The Joyful edition softens the look by giving Astro Bot gently closed eyes, creating a cheerful expression instead.
Price Expectations and Scalper Fears
Sony has yet to confirm the price of the Joyful edition. The original Astro Bot DualSense launched at $80 (RM370), while another themed controller—the Last of Us DualSense—sold earlier this year for $85 (RM390). With this in mind, the Joyful edition may follow a similar price range.

Collectors should brace for resellers, as the first Astro Bot controller skyrocketed in value after selling out. Sealed copies of the original still go for $110 to $160 (RM510 to RM740) online, often on auction sites like eBay. Unless fans act quickly, the Joyful edition could face the same fate, driving prices even higher in the resale market.
