Bandai have announced a new mecha franchise, Kyoukai Senki (Boundary War Machine), complete with a new anime as well as accompanying model kits.

The English name isn’t official, and is instead a translation of its Japanese name, Kyoukai Senki. The story is set in the near future with Japan divided by four economic blocs, each occupying different parts of Japan. The summary details that people are in a state of oppression from the giant humanoid AMAIM, waging battles across the islands.

Aside from an anime, the mecha shown in the PV, Kenbu, will be getting a High Grade 1/72 scale model kit. On top of that, Kenbu will also be receiving a poseable figurine from Tamashii Nations, for those who don’t want to build a kit from scratch.

The series will introduce protagonist Amou Shiiba, who pilots the AMAIM Kenbu with his new AI partner, Gai.

On top of that we were also shown Amou’s foil, Geshin Tezuka. Geshin is more serious, and is seeking a specific AMAIM to avenge his father’s death.

The anime will be directed by Nobuyoshi Habara, who also directed Fafner. Gundam Build Divers’ Noboru Kimura will be on Script Supervision, while Build Fighters’ Kenichi Ohnuki will be doing character designs.

They’ve also released key art for the anime, featuring Amou and Kenbu, showing that although this series isn’t part of the Gundam franchise it very much still has the spirit of it.
