Tencent Games Universal Studios Beijing Collaboration Announced

A Tencent Games Universal Studios Beijing collaboration has been announced, bringing the gaming IPs under the popular corporation to the Chinese branch of the popular theme park.

According to Sina, the Tencent IPs will be incorporated seasonally, similar to how Universal Studios Japan handles its own variety of collaborations. While Tencent has grown to have a stake in many popular game companies, they also have their own IPs, such as the widely popular game Honor Of Kings.

It’s not currently known if only first-party IPs like QQ and Honor Of Kings will be added to the Tencent Games Universal Studios Beijing collaboration, or if fans could expect to see characters from Tencent’s subsidiaries’ IPs like League of Legends or Warframe at the theme park as well.

Even though Universal Studios Beijing is set to open this year, don’t expect any Tencent characters to show up at launch. The report says that the seasonal events won’t start until 2022, so there’s no reason to watch the release date like a hawk if you’re only going there for the gaming events.

Sina’s report also mentions Esports as part of the collaboration, but did not elaborate how that would factor into the park.

Themed parks around popular franchises aren’t a new concept, as the Super Nintendo World park was supposed to launch in Japan recently, but had to be postponed due to the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.
