After a very successful launch, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has come out on top as the fastest-selling PC game of all time.

This news comes following statistics released by Blizzard, showing that the MMO juggernaut’s latest expansion sold 3.7 million units globally within its first 24 hours.

Blizzard was also behind the previous record holder, Diablo III. The game pushed 3.5 million units globally within its first 24 hours of launching back in 2012. It’s since held that title for almost a decade until the release of Shadowlands.

Blizzard also released several statistics along with the sales figures, all to do with the expansions’ engagement numbers.

According to Blizzard, the months leading up to the Shadowlands launch saw the highest number of players with monthly or longer subscriptions in World of Warcraft.

Additionally, players have spent more than double their collective in-game time in World of Warcraft this year compared to other years in the past decade. Considering how a lot of people spent the year living under stay-at-home orders, it’s not surprising that the MMO would have a more active playerbase.

“It’s been a huge thrill to enter this whole-new dimension of the Warcraft universe together with millions of players around the world,” said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “It’s been equally rewarding to see players enjoying all of the new features and content in Shadowlands—whether they’re exploring new aspects of their characters with the Covenants or setting foot in WoW for the first time with the new-player experience in Exile’s Reach—and there’s much more to come.”

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the latest expansion in the long-running MMO World of Warcraft. Aside from a new chapter in the story of Azeroth, it also revamps the experience for players old and new with a reworked level cap, as well as an improved New Player experience.
