The theme for Tokyo Game Show 2020 has been revealed: The Future Touches Gaming First! In cooperation with Nikkei Business Publications Inc. (Nikkei BP, President: Naoto Yoshida), and Dentsu Inc. (Representative Director: Hiroshi Igarashi),  Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA, Chairman: Hideki Hayakawa) has announced TGS2020 to be held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture) for four days: 24 – 27 September. Applications for the exhibition are now being accepted.

The theme brings to mind how games are the most updated and accessible means to experience the emerging technologies that unlocks new possibilities for the future. The event expects to provide an opportunity for people to touch and play the latest games and immerse themselves in the feel of an exciting future that is just around the corner.

Novel game consoles for the next generation at TGS2020 would surely be attracting more attention from the world. The full-fledged launch of cloud gaming and related services such as 5G will be focused on. There will be an area where visitors can explore “new frontiers” of games with the crossing over of education, fashion, arts
and other industries.

Tokyo Game Show 2020 will be teaming up with popular influences from Japan and overseas to create buzz prior to the event for both visitors and game fans who can’t be at the venue in person. With tie-ups with domestic and overseas media partners, and multiple video platforms, the latest event news will be in Japanese, English and Chinese to reach the growing number of online viewers on a global scale.

With esports gaining more attention outside of the game industry, TGS2020 will once again plan to hold various championships at the giant “e-Sports X (Cross)” stage. Details will be announced in April. Online streaming services will be upgraded, along with a unique way for visitors to enjoy e-Sports.

This year will be the 30th anniversary of Tokyo Game Show since its inaugural event in 1996. It had 87 exhibitors and 109,649 visitors at its beginning. TGS has since continued moving forward as a game event with both B to B and B to C elements. Internationalization of the event has also been promoted, actively attracting foreign companies to join as exhibitors.

Over 600 companies and organizations have exhibited at the event for four years in a row since 2016, with over 300 overseas exhibitors for four consecutive years.
