“If you did not success early, die and die again”, this was the message that the general survival horror game consist, but this is not the case for Song of Horror.

This game is a third person survival horror game that will introduce you 4 character in each episode. Each character will continue off the last checkpoint you left. If all of them are dead, you are forced to replay the game entirely. Song of Horror actually triggered me with this mechanics as I like to temper around some stuff. As a result, I restarted a lot.

You are no longer lock in the room, you are now free to roam around the mansion, but hey, this doesn’t mean that you’re safe and no ones going to chop you into pieces right. In the episode 1, whenever there’s a monster knocking on the door, I got scared and almost break my monitor. SCREW JUMPSCARES! So, if you don’t shut the door, you will be going back to the start~

The developers from Protocol Games mentioned that the AI in Song of Horror is very unpredictable and it will slowly learn your playing habits or pattern.

Each Song of Horror characters have their own take in terms of the storyline that surrounds a music-box that they received. Song of Horror are a bit low in terms of triggering emotions maybe because in episode 5 and the last may have something more crucial. These last 2 episode are being said to be either a good ending where all the characters survived or bad ending where all of them die. In this case, you play as Alexander where his wife was eaten by an unknown entity which is the same story outline as Daniel.

The main hook for me in Song of Horror is not only the emotional connection that the characters shared within the story. It was the sense of satisfactory and happiness that I get when I solve the puzzle elements within the game. Song of Horror sets a really good and immersive environment that allows you to enjoy the game as if you are enjoying a movie, but realistically, you were tested to brain for the puzzling elements.

Like the classic Resident Evil series, this game contains a locked camera angle for each room. The camera angle is strategically so that you can see the critical angles for extra awareness. There’s also a quick-time event in which if you fail it, your current character might die.

As a whole, if the storyline continue to develop just like how in episode 1 & 2, the game would be very impressive. The perma-death mechanic is also something that will appeal to players like me. As far as I can tell, Song of Horror is a good survival horror game that will definitely attract horror game enthusiasts. Right now Song of Horror is already out for PC and you can buy it in Steam!
