So it’s official; the PlayStation 5 now has an estimated release date and it will be out during the holiday period of 2020, which admittedly is fairly vague, but now we know roughly when to expect it.

Sony decisively chose not to reveal too much of its next generation console, but what do know is that the controller will be completely redone with the addition of two key features.

First is the haptic feedback feature to replace the existing “rumble” that has been a staple with past PlayStations. Sony claims that users will feel a broader range of feedback, so for example, crashing a race car into a wall will feel a lot different then say, tackling on a football field.

Second is what Sony dubs adaptive triggers, which has been incorporated into the L2 and R2 buttons. Resistance of the triggers can be programmed in by developers, so there will for example, there will be a tactile sensation when drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle.

Sony goes on to say that early versions of the controllers are already in the hands of developers and they have been given basic guidelines as to how they should work. We will have to wait for the end result much later, of course.

Other inclusions, according to Wired, are:

• Ray-tracing support
• Physical games using 100 gigabyte optical discs inserted into an optical drive that is also a 4K Blu-ray player
• Ability to choose which parts of a game you want to install
• Revamped user interface
• Controller is USB Type-C for charging, larger capacity battery, but still lighter than the current Xbox controller “with batteries in”
