The global competitive season for PUBG Mobile – PUBG Mobile Club Open 2019 has started recently. Top teams from 10 regions around the world will complete through the Spring and Fall Splits, and for now, the PMCO SEA League 2019 is happening in China to select the representatives for SEA. We had an interview with Oliver Ye, Director of PUBG Mobile SEA and Gaga Li, Head of PUBG Mobile SEA Esports for their insights into the future of PUBG Mobile in Southeast Asia, and here are what they told us.

Our first question would be about the future of PUBG Mobile in the mobile gaming industry. In Oliver’s opinion, the mobile gaming industry could be developed a lot more especially in Asia countries such as Indonesia, India and Malaysia. This is because more people are affordable to own a mobile device, while the internet services get better now. To develop mobile gaming industry furthermore, they are also working with local partners in SEA.

PUBG Mobile is now one of the world’s most popular mobile games. We asked about the factors that contribute to its success – the biggest factor would be its popularity on PC. Secondly, it is developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studio that has the best developers and programmers in the world. It is a new genre to gamers, while the developers are always keeping the game fresh with new modes according to players’ response. There are collaborations with globally popular titles and celebrities including Resident Evil 2 and Alan Walker to attract new players too.

To ensure that professional players (especially those who are not full-time) can focus on the game itself without having to worry about their financial income, PUBG Mobile SEA offer a big prize pool for tournaments. They will try to get more sponsors and advertising opportunity for the players as well.

Next, we are hoping to see PUBG Mobile tournaments with different rules or team mechanics. However, Oliver and Gaga comment that for now, this might be a bit difficult as they want to make it fair for everyone. Moreover, viewers are used to the current format.

Getting PUBG Mobile into Asian Games or even Olympics games would be one of the biggest achievement the game can get, and both Oliver and Gaga hope that their wish could be granted someday. They are hoping to see more female players taking part in the tournaments in the future too. Other than these, Oliver and Gaga tell us that RRQ, the 2018 global champion and BTR who have a very huge fanbase caught their attention in this PMCO SEA League 2019.
