The new Predator Orion 5000 by Acer is packed with power that you can hear it roar. It is to be expected from a gaming PC lineup from Acer Predator and it is equipped with the latest Intel Coffee Lake processors paired with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1070. For those who are looking at a gaming desktop that would last you long enough before you need a new upgrade, the Orion 5000 is one to watch out for.

Orion, The Hunter

Just like the Hunter Orion from Greek mythology, the Acer Predator Orion 5000 is looking like one powerhouse that can take on any games you throw into it. As it is packed with power, the design on the case with its blue lights is as if the power is coursing through the Orion. With it’s solid structure and design, the name Orion fits its facade of the Greek mythology.

Looking like a sci-fi alien ship, there’s a compartment which will softly drop down that reveals the CD-ROM in a stylish way. With its geometric and angular design, the strips of blue lights highlights the angles giving it a cool futuristic and sci-fi feel. Apart from that, there’s also two flip out bars where you can leave your headset hanging which is really convenient.

That said, the case being futuristic and all has an airduct which they call it the IceTunnel 2.0 that channels half of the airflow from the fans in the front as seen through the beehive design; directly into the graphics card which help cools the processors as well. Acer has taken consideration on making the case one that fits the current fashion but at the same time, practical enough for PC builders to make their own customization when they need to.

Raw Power Of The Orion

When we got the Orion 5000 and got to see the majestic solid CPU, placed on the table, turn it on with the blue light strips coursing around the case, we thought we’d pair it with Acer’s Predator Z1 to experience the full capacity of the CPU itself. It wouldn’t be right would it if we used a normal monitor to play-test this predator of a CPU?

As mentioned earlier the Orion 5000 is equipped with the latest 8th Gen Intel i7 8700K processor along with an Nvidia Gefore GTX 1070 8GB and 16GB of RAM, we’re about to expect the best looking graphics and smoothest gameplay on it. Which of course it delivers as we tried out Final Fantasy XV, Overwatch, The Crew 2 and Far Cry 5. They all played spectacularly on it, consistently outputting at least 60fps with no issues. This was as expected from a powerhouse CPU like the Orion 5000.

While we were gaming on it, we’ve also ran some benchmarks on it which displays the scores appropriate for the Orion 5000. Though this is the lesser variant of the Intel i7 8700K with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti in SLI, this variant is still performing well and above many other PCs out there.

Verdict

The Acer Predator Orion 5000 priced at RM7,899 is quite the right price for the specifications that comes with it. With the other high-end systems that are installed on the CPU like the Sound Blaster X, PredatorSense, Killer Networking and Nvidia VR Ready, there’s so much more potential it can put out when you’re gaming on it competitively. Overall, Acer’s gaming desktop lineup is looking great with other higher-end desktops like the Orion 9000 and the Predator X. But if those are way above your budget, the Orion 5000 is a great replacement for your old gears with upgradability and an amazing design.
