Aniplex and TYPE-MOON have announced that the anime movie Witch on the Holy Night will open in theaters on November 20. The film is produced by ufotable, the studio behind other TYPE-MOON adaptations, and is based on the original work by Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON.

The project was first announced back in 2021, and fans have been waiting for further details since then. The new release date was confirmed through an announcement on the movie’s official social media account, along with a short description calling the film “the story of one girl, a witch, the tale of her beginnings.”

The movie is based on the visual novel of the same name, which TYPE-MOON released in Japan in 2012. The story takes place in the late 1980s and follows Aoko Aozaki, a high school student who is unexpectedly named heir to her family’s line of magic users. She moves into a mansion to study sorcery under Alice Kuonji, a young witch who lives there, while also trying to keep up with her duties as student council president. Her situation grows more complicated with the arrival of a new transfer student, Sojuro Shizuki, and the return of her older sister Toko Aozaki, who believes she should have been the one chosen to inherit the family’s magic.
