Xiaomi’s T-series has always been about giving users a lot for their money, and the Xiaomi 17T Pro is no different. It comes in with a bold pitch: a Leica-tuned camera system built around serious zoom, a massive 7000mAh battery, and the latest MediaTek chip under the hood. There is a lot to unpack here, from how it performs during gaming sessions to whether the camera actually delivers on its Leica branding. Our review goes through the whole package, from the way it feels in your hand to how long it lasts at the end of a busy day.
Design and Build
The 17T Pro comes in Deep Blue and Deep Violet, both with a metallic sheen that gives it a premium look without going overboard. The aluminium frame has a micro-curved finish that makes the shift between the screen and the body feel smooth. Compared to its predecessor, the camera module on the back is smaller and tidier, which cleans up the rear profile nicely.
It measures 8.25mm thick and weighs 219g, which is a reasonable trade-off for everything packed inside. That said, the weight is noticeable during long one-handed use, which is worth keeping in mind for those with smaller hands. IP68 water and dust resistance is included, so everyday splashes and light rain are not a concern.
The 6.83-inch AMOLED screen runs at 1.5K resolution (2772×1280) with a 144Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness hits 3500 nits, which keeps visibility solid even in direct sunlight. At the other end, it can dim down to just 1 nit, and DC dimming is supported, making it easier on the eyes when using the phone in the dark.
Xiaomi calls this Xiaomi Vision Care, and the display holds four TÜV Rheinland eye-care certifications covering flicker, blue light, circadian rhythm support, and intelligent eye care. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are both on board, and the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
Performance and Gaming
Under the hood is the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, built on a 3nm process with an All-Big-Core architecture. It brings roughly 32% and 33% improvements in single-core CPU and GPU peak performance respectively over the Dimensity 9400. Day-to-day tasks run without any issues.
For gaming, the results are mostly positive. Honor of Kings held a steady 120fps throughout testing, and after 30 minutes, the battery only dropped 5%. Wuthering Waves at max settings reached 60fps, though the phone warmed up during a 30-minute session and used 10% of the battery. Arknights: Endfield also hit 60fps at max settings, but heat build-up was more noticeable during extended play. Honkai: Star Rail at max settings could reach 60fps, but occasional frame drops appeared under load. Switching to high settings cleared that up and kept things at a stable 60fps.
The chip handles the mainstream mobile gaming library well. Thermal build-up under sustained maximum-settings play is something heavier users should factor in, but for most gaming sessions the experience holds up comfortably.
Camera System
The triple camera setup is co-engineered with Leica, and the telephoto lens is clearly the centrepiece. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.67 aperture, OIS, and Xiaomi’s Light Fusion 950 sensor measuring 1/1.31 inches, which is one of the larger sensors in this class. The telephoto is also 50MP, with an f/3.0 aperture, OIS, and a 5x optical zoom at 115mm equivalent. It supports macro shooting down to 30cm and digital zoom up to 120x through AI Ultra Zoom. The ultra-wide is a 12MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and a 120-degree field of view.
In daylight, the main camera produces images with natural colours and good detail. The Leica Summilux optics add a distinctive quality to the output. Low-light performance is competent. The 5x telephoto holds up well, but beyond 60x, the results are more documentary than shareable. A new software feature called Leica Live Moment captures a short burst of motion around each shot to create dynamic photos with Leica photographic styles. It works across all rear cameras and in Portrait mode, and photos can be combined into collages for sharing.
On the video side, the 17T Pro shoots up to 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps. It also introduces 4K 60fps cinematic movie mode recording, a first for the Xiaomi series.
Battery and More
The 7000mAh silicon-carbon battery is the largest Xiaomi has put into the T-series for international markets. In testing, one hour of streaming video used just 5% of the battery. Xiaomi’s official figure is 1.88 days under heavy use, and for moderate users, getting through a full day without charging is realistic. Heavy gamers who spend long sessions on demanding titles will drain it faster.
Charging is handled by 100W wired HyperCharge. In testing, the phone went from 17% to 100% in around 1 hour and 10 minutes. Wireless charging runs at 50W, and reverse wired charging is available at 22.5W. It also supports 100W PPS for compatible third-party chargers. Whether a charger is included in the box depends on the region, so checking with the local retailer before purchase is a good idea.
The dual stereo speakers come with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res, and Hi-Res Wireless certifications. Volume output is strong and the sound is wide enough for both gaming and media. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 with Dual-Bluetooth support, NFC, and comprehensive 5G band coverage.
Verdict
The Xiaomi 17T Pro is a focused device that does not try to be everything at once. The 7000mAh battery paired with 100W charging is one of the more practical combinations available right now, and for users who spend long stretches away from a charger, that is a strong selling point on its own. The Dimensity 9500 keeps performance smooth across the mobile gaming library, though sustained play at maximum settings pushes the thermals harder.
The Leica-tuned camera handles everyday photography well, and the 5x telephoto is a genuine highlight for shooting at range. There are no glaring weaknesses here, and how well it holds up against alternatives will come down to competitive pricing. For those who prioritize battery life and telephoto versatility, the 17T Pro is a device worth looking at closely.
