Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive have officially announced that the psychological survival horror game Total Chaos will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 29, 2026 in North America, priced at $24.99 (RM 98), with other regions to follow shortly after.
Originally released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Microsoft Store in November 2025, the title now expands its reach with a handheld-optimized version designed for Nintendo’s next-generation system.
A Descent Into the Horror of Fort Oasis

Total Chaos is a first-person psychological survival horror experience set in the decaying remains of Fort Oasis, a once-thriving coal-mining settlement now transformed into a nightmarish wasteland.
Players are drawn into an increasingly unstable environment where reality begins to fracture, and the constant feeling of being watched fuels the game’s oppressive atmosphere. As they explore deeper into the island, they must uncover fragmented clues about its downfall while surviving encounters with grotesque creatures lurking within the ruins.
The story also intertwines personal mystery and psychological tension, as players slowly uncover their own connection to Fort Oasis and its dark history.
Nintendo Switch 2 Enhancements and Performance Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Total Chaos has been optimized to take advantage of the new hardware. In docked mode, the game runs at 1080p, while handheld mode targets 720p resolution.
Players will also have access to selectable performance settings, including an unlocked framerate mode aiming for up to 60 frames per second, depending on system conditions. The game further supports Joy-Con 2 mouse input and gyro controls, offering more flexibility in combat and exploration.
Importantly, this release also includes the latest content update from the game’s New Game+ mode, adding expanded story elements, an alternate ending, additional death animations, and a new enemy type known as The Hunter, a persistent stalker that actively pursues the player throughout the experience.
Survival Horror Systems and Atmosphere

Total Chaos is structured around classic survival horror mechanics, combining resource scarcity, environmental tension, and methodical combat. Players must carefully manage limited supplies while scavenging materials to craft and upgrade weapons in order to survive increasingly dangerous encounters.
The game’s design emphasizes exploration-driven storytelling, with environmental clues, cryptic notes, and unsettling visual storytelling used to gradually reveal Fort Oasis’ tragic past.
Enemy encounters are designed with distinct behavioral patterns, forcing players to adapt strategies rather than rely on brute force. Inventory management also plays a critical role, where every item carries weight in determining survival outcomes.
Soundtrack and Creative Legacy

A standout feature of the game is its atmospheric soundtrack, which includes contributions from legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, known for his work on the Silent Hill series. He is joined by original mod composers Jason Dagenet and William Braddell, alongside Apogee Entertainment’s internal music team.
The result is a deeply unsettling audio experience that blends ambient tension with psychological horror cues, reinforcing the game’s focus on immersion and unease.
From DOOM II Mod to Full Standalone Release

Total Chaos originally began life as an award-winning total conversion mod for DOOM II before evolving into a fully standalone title. Developed by Sam Prebble, the project draws from both game development and Hollywood visual effects experience, including work on major films such as Avatar, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
This background contributes to the game’s cinematic presentation and highly detailed environmental design, helping it stand out in the modern survival horror space.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Expands Reach of a Modern Horror Experience

With its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release, Total Chaos continues its expansion across platforms, bringing its intense psychological horror experience to a wider audience. The combination of portable play, enhanced performance options, and expanded content positions this version as a definitive way to experience the game for handheld players.
As the release date approaches, players can expect further details, including final regional launch timing and additional gameplay showcases.
