Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that it is aware of crash issues affecting Starfield on PlayStation 5 (PS5) and said a hotfix is on the way later this week. Starfield launched on PS5 earlier this month, nearly three years after it first came out on Xbox and PC. Since then, a number of players have taken to social media and forums to report serious technical problems, with some describing the game as “unplayable.”
“I’m getting crashes every 2 minutes. Tried everything,” one Reddit user wrote. Another added: “Consistent crashing. Mostly when scanning and exploring. I haven’t even left Kreet yet.”

Bethesda posted a statement on social media saying it had looked into the reports and made progress in tracking down what is causing the problem. “We’re aware of some reported PS5 crashing issues and have narrowed them down to a small number of causes,” the studio said. “We’re addressing these in a hotfix we’re aiming to release this week. Thanks for flagging, and we’ll keep you posted.”

The PS5 version launched alongside two content drops. The first is Terran Armada, a paid story expansion that adds new characters, locations, enemies, quests, systems, and rewards. The second is Free Lanes, a free update that brings improvements including interplanetary travel, new encounters, points of interest, dungeons, and a new land vehicle called the Moon Jumper.
For now, PS5 players dealing with crashes in Starfield will need to wait for the hotfix, which Bethesda says it is targeting for release this week.
