Aquaplus has announced that its Japanese-exclusive mobile game, Utawarerumono: Lost Frag, will live on in a new form after its servers shut down. The upcoming standalone release, titled Utawarerumono: Lost Frag – Story Archives, will let players experience the game’s narrative without needing an internet connection.
No release date has been given for Story Archives yet. The developer has also said it is looking into including full voice-acting and new story content in this version, though nothing has been confirmed on that front.
The original mobile game will end service on April 23, 2026. Microtransaction support has already been shut off, and players who still have unused paid gems can request refunds between April 23 and July 13. Lost Frag first launched on November 26, 2019, meaning the game ran for over six years before reaching the end of its service.
The shutdown comes during a broader transitional period for the franchise. Aquaplus recently announced Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered, which is described as the currently planned final entry in the series. Aquaplus president Naoya Shimokawa stated that this title represents the point where the creative team has fully told the story they originally set out to tell.
Shimokawa also noted that the company plans to shift its attention to other projects going forward, including the long-awaited title Jasmine and new original IPs. Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered is set to launch on PC via Steam in English this May.
