Psychological horror visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club! has been removed from the Google Play Store just months after launching on Android in December 2025. The removal was confirmed by publisher Serenity Forge, which stated that Google determined the game violated storefront policies related to the depiction of sensitive themes.
The sudden delisting has surprised fans, especially since the title remains available across multiple other platforms and had already been accessible to Android players for several months prior to its removal.
Developer Responds to Google Play Store Removal

In an official statement, creator Dan Salvato and the Serenity Forge team explained that Google’s decision was tied specifically to how the game presents mature subject matter. However, the team emphasized that they are actively working toward restoring the game’s availability on Android devices.
According to the statement, the developers are currently exploring possible solutions to reinstate the game on the Google Play Store. At the same time, they are also considering alternative distribution options should reinstatement not be possible.

Salvato also highlighted how the game’s storytelling has resonated with players worldwide, noting that its portrayal of mental health themes has helped many players feel understood and connected through its narrative experience.
Doki Doki Literature Club!’s Themes Remain Central to Its Identity

Originally released in 2017, Doki Doki Literature Club! gained widespread recognition for its unconventional structure and psychological horror elements. While it initially presents itself as a lighthearted visual novel, the game later explores darker emotional territory and complex themes that are clearly communicated through content warnings on its storefront listings.

Despite Google’s decision, the game continues to be available on several major platforms including iOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, and PC. The Android version had also received strong engagement from players during its short time on the Play Store.
Future Availability on Android Still Uncertain

Serenity Forge confirmed that the team worked extensively to bring the game to Android and expressed appreciation for the strong response from the platform’s community over the past few months. The developers also reassured players that updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available regarding the game’s status.
At the time of writing, Google has not issued additional public clarification beyond citing policy concerns related to sensitive themes. For now, the return of Doki Doki Literature Club! to the Google Play Store remains uncertain, but the developers appear committed to finding a path forward for Android users eager to experience the title on mobile devices.
