Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has officially confirmed that the original God of War trilogy will have a remake, revealed during the February State of Play presentation.
The announcement comes as the franchise approaches the end of its 20th anniversary year. The first God of War launched in March 2005 on PlayStation 2, introducing players to Kratos and his journey through ancient Greece. Grace Orlady, Lead Community Manager at Santa Monica Studio, shared the news in an official blog post. The announcement featured TC Carson, the original voice actor who portrayed Kratos throughout the Greek saga.
The studio made it clear that the remake project is still in very early development. Santa Monica Studio has asked fans to be patient, noting it will be some time before they can share more details. When updates do arrive, the team plans to make them substantial.
According to Orlady, remaking the Greek trilogy has been one of the most frequent requests from the God of War community. The studio expressed gratitude for the continued interest in seeing the original games return.
“As we look to the future, we also want to invest in the past and tend to the series’ roots that got us to where we are today,” Orlady stated in the announcement.

The studio thanked fans for two decades of support, acknowledging that player enthusiasm has made it possible to continue evolving the series over the years. No release date or additional details about the remake have been announced at this time.
