Tokyo Game Show is getting its biggest expansion yet. The annual gaming event will run for five days in 2026, marking the first time in the show’s history it will extend beyond its traditional four-day format. The event will take place from September 17-21, 2026 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), which organizes the show alongside Nikkei Business Publications and Sony Music Solutions, announced the change as part of the show’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
The first two days, September 17 and 18 will be Business Days, running from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. These days are reserved for industry professionals. The remaining three days from September 19 to 21 will be open to the public from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (with Monday closing an hour earlier at 4:00 PM).

The extra public day is intended to reduce crowding and give more visitors a chance to try out games. According to organizers, the usual crowds during public days often meant people couldn’t play as many titles as they wanted.
Tokyo Game Show 2026 will introduce new ticket types for both business and public attendees. While specific details weren’t provided, organizers said these tickets will include additional services to improve the visitor experience. The event is also pushing to become more international. Plans include holding exhibitor briefings in new cities overseas, attending other gaming events around the world, and launching campaigns to strengthen TGS’s position as a global show.

Both physical and online formats will be available, with the online portion offering programs and content for people who can’t attend in person. To mark the 30th anniversary, organizers have created a special gold-colored logo and are planning various projects leading up to and during the event. More details about anniversary activities will be announced later through the official website and social media.
The show expects around 300,000 visitors and approximately 3,500 booths. Exhibitor applications are now open, with different deadlines depending on booth size.
