Sony Interactive Entertainment and Guerrilla Games have officially revealed Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative action game set in the Horizon universe. The title is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Guerrilla Games has not announced a release date yet. Players can now sign up for playtests through the PlayStation Beta Program.
This new entry marks a clear shift for the franchise. Instead of focusing on a single hero-driven journey, the game places cooperation and squad-based combat at the center of the experience. Guerrilla Games aims to expand the Horizon universe by offering a more tactical and multiplayer-focused approach.
A Fresh Direction for the Horizon World

Horizon Hunters Gathering casts players as elite Hunters who stand between humanity and extinction. The world remains overrun by hostile machines, but the structure feels more mission-driven than past Horizon titles. Each Hunter brings a distinct identity, complete with unique weapons, abilities, and combat roles.
This design encourages players to think beyond individual skill. Teams must coordinate their strengths to survive intense encounters. The game still embraces the series’ sci-fi themes and machine-driven threats, but it reframes them through cooperative gameplay rather than solo exploration.
Guerrilla Games also emphasizes long-term storytelling. The campaign connects missions through an evolving narrative, allowing players to experience the story over time instead of in a single linear arc.
Designed for Three-Player Cooperative Combat

The game supports three-player cooperative teams as its core format. Players can squad up with friends online or fill empty slots with NPC allies. This setup allows solo players to progress while keeping teamwork central to the experience.
Combat focuses on high-pressure encounters against lethal machines. Each enemy features distinct behaviors, elemental attacks, and combat patterns. Players must react quickly, position carefully, and use elemental weaknesses to their advantage. Success depends on coordination, not brute force.
Different environments further shape combat scenarios. Landscapes influence movement, visibility, and strategy, forcing teams to adapt on the fly.
Playtests and First Look Details

Guerrilla Games has opened registration for upcoming playtests through the PlayStation Beta Program. These tests will give players an early look at combat systems and cooperative mechanics. The developer has also released an announcement trailer and a first batch of screenshots. These materials highlight machine battles, Hunter designs, and varied environments.
While many details remain unannounced, Horizon Hunters Gathering represents a bold step for the franchise. By embracing cooperative action and an evolving campaign structure, Guerrilla Games signals its intent to grow the Horizon universe in new and meaningful ways.
