Square Enix has announced that a playable demo for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will launch on January 7, giving players an early look at the remake ahead of its full release.
Players who try the demo will receive the “Day Off Dress” costume for party member Maribel to use in the complete game. Progress made during the demo can also be transferred to the full version, allowing players to continue their adventure without starting over.

The Dragon Quest VII Reimagined demo is expected to showcase the remake’s updated features, including its diorama-style visuals and modernized combat system. The full game uses visible enemies instead of random encounters, offers multiple battle speed options, and includes an Auto-Battle Tactics system. Players can also equip two vocations at once through the Moonlighting feature, giving characters access to skills from both job classes during fights.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined updates the PlayStation 1 classic with voice acting in both Japanese and English, adjustable difficulty settings, and various accessibility options. The game maintains turn-based combat while adding strategic elements like the “Getting Worked Up” system, which lets characters trigger temporary buffs based on their current job.
The remake releases worldwide on February 5, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
