Chaos Manufacturing, an indie development team, has revealed SOL Shogunate, a single-player third-person action RPG coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The game presents a sci-fi take on feudal Japanese culture, combining sword combat with a space-faring setting.
Players take on the role of Yuzuki, the sole survivor of a samurai family destroyed by a rival clan. As a ronin seeking revenge, she travels through cities built on the moon known as “Lunar Glass” megacities. These locations use artificial gravity to support life and feature infrastructure including space elevators and high-speed rail systems. The cities draw inspiration from different periods of Japanese history, with industrial zones beneath their bright exteriors.

The combat system focuses on precision and timing. Yuzuki is described as genetically modified for combat and uses traditional weapons redesigned for futuristic battles. Players can channel different types of energy into their attacks to expose enemy weaknesses and create tactical advantages. As the character progresses, new techniques become available that change how battles play out.
Music plays a central role in the game’s design. Chaos Manufacturing is working with Japanese rock artists, including the band AliA, to create boss encounters that pair visual action with original music tracks. These multi-stage battles are designed to respond to what happens on screen.

The game’s moon-based cities serve as the main environments, with each metropolis reflecting a different era of Japanese history. Players will navigate these vertical districts using gravity assist gear and can discover hidden areas that reveal background information about the game’s world.
