Halo Studios and Xbox Game Studios have revealed Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign and is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store. It will also be available via Game Pass.
This marks a significant moment for the franchise, as it will be the first time a Halo game officially releases on PlayStation. Speaking at the Halo World Championship 2025, community director Brian Jarrard expressed excitement about bringing the series to a new audience. “We’re just super excited to be able to welcome even more players now to the franchise we loved, to fall in love with Halo the same way that we all did 24 years ago,” he said.
Halo: Campaign Evolved stays true to the original story while adding modern improvements. The game features updated graphics, new cinematics, and better controls. Players will also get three new prequel missions starring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson that take place before the events of the original game.
The remake expands the weapon selection with nine additional guns from other Halo games, including fan favorites like the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle. Vehicle gameplay has been enhanced too—players can now hijack enemy vehicles and drive the Covenant Wraith tank for the first time in this campaign.
The campaign can be played solo or with friends. Console players can enjoy two-player split-screen co-op, while both console and PC players can team up online with up to four people. The game supports cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. For added replay value, Halo: Campaign Evolved includes “Skulls”—optional modifiers that change gameplay by randomizing weapons, enemies, and environments. These can be mixed and matched through a campaign remix feature.
The game recreates the story of Master Chief crash-landing on the mysterious ringworld called Halo, where he must help surviving humans fight against the Covenant while uncovering the ring’s secrets with his AI companion Cortana. Halo: Campaign Evolved is now available for wishlist on all platforms ahead of its 2026 release.
