Niantic has released one of Pokémon Go’s biggest updates yet, completely overhauling how players level up. The new system increases the level cap from 50 to 80 while introducing new XP requirements, milestone rewards, and daily activities. The goal is clear—make progression more rewarding and keep players engaged for the long haul.
A Reworked XP System
Niantic didn’t just extend the level cap. The team also rebalanced the entire XP curve to create a smoother and more consistent sense of progress. Early and mid-game levels now require less XP, helping newer players level up faster. Higher levels still demand serious dedication, with level 80 requiring more than 200 million XP to reach.
All existing XP carries over automatically, so no one loses progress. Players simply start at the level that matches their current XP total. This ensures a smooth transition for veterans who have already invested countless hours.
New Milestone Rewards and Customization
Leveling up now feels more meaningful thanks to milestone rewards. Starting from level 25, players unlock Poké Ball–themed gear like caps, jackets, and shoes. As they advance, these rewards evolve into Great Ball and Ultra Ball versions, showing off their progress visually.
Reaching higher milestones unlocks exclusive cosmetics such as unique jackets, hairstyles, and poses available between levels 71 and 80. Trainers also gain practical bonuses like increased Pokémon and item storage, more postcard slots, and special in-game gifts. Every level now feels like a small celebration instead of just another grind.
Introducing the Daily Adventure Egg
The update also adds a new daily feature: the Daily Adventure Egg. Players level 15 and above automatically receive one in a special incubator every day. Walking one kilometer hatches the egg, rewarding 10,000 XP. It’s a clever incentive that motivates players to log in, walk, and play a little each day.
Tied to the Tales of Transformation Season
This major overhaul arrives during Pokémon Go’s Tales of Transformation season, which continues to roll out new Pokémon and themed events. The current Harvest Festival, live until October 16, introduces Dipplin and Hydrapple. Afterward, Niantic will celebrate the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A with a crossover event, followed by the annual Halloween celebration featuring new Ghost-type Pokémon and costume variants.

By raising the level cap and adding better rewards, Niantic gives both veterans and newcomers more reasons to play. The addition of cosmetic milestones and the Daily Adventure Egg helps keep the experience fresh while rewarding consistency.
