Yahoo! Auctions, a major Japanese online marketplace similar to eBay, announced that it will continue its strict ban on Nintendo Switch 2 listings. The platform also confirmed that bundles containing the upcoming game Pokémon Legends Z-A paired with the Switch 2 will face the same restrictions.
The ban has been in place since the console’s global launch in June, but Yahoo! Auctions says it will keep the policy active due to concerns about “disruptions of the marketplace and fraudulent listings.” The decision appears to be driven by continued high demand for the console in Japan.
This announcement follows a similar move by Mercari, another popular Japanese online marketplace, which revealed its own crackdown on problematic Switch 2 listings just days earlier. Mercari specifically mentioned the console as an example when announcing stricter enforcement against exploitative or fraudulent product listings.

The shift marks a change in approach for Mercari, which initially took a more relaxed stance on Switch 2 listings when the console launched, favoring marketplace freedom. However, the platform has now adjusted its position following multiple issues reported between sellers and buyers.
Both companies’ recent policy decisions may be connected to anti-scalping partnerships they signed with Nintendo in May this year. These agreements appear to be part of broader efforts to address resale practices and protect consumers in Japan’s gaming market. The continued restrictions highlight the challenges online marketplaces face in balancing platform openness with consumer protection, particularly for high-demand gaming hardware.
