Ratalaika Games and Shinyuden have announced that Scurge: Hive, the science-fiction action adventure originally developed by Orbital Media for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on October 10, 2025.

A Bounty Hunter Against a Deadly Virus

Players will once again step into the role of Jenosa Arma, an elite bounty hunter assigned by the military to investigate a top-secret laboratory on a remote planet. Upon arrival, she discovers that the facility has fallen victim to a powerful biological entity known as the Scurge virus, a parasitic lifeform capable of enslaving all living beings to its will.

Armed with her specialized bio-protective armor, Jenosa is resistant to the infection, but the danger grows with every moment she spends inside the contaminated zone. To survive, she must rely on her agility, weapons, and quick thinking to contain the spreading threat before it consumes the planet entirely. The game’s tense timer-based infection mechanic creates a constant sense of urgency, pushing players to stay on the move while solving puzzles and defeating enemies.

Classic Gameplay with Modern Enhancements

This updated version of Scurge: Hive stays faithful to the original’s isometric platforming, fast-paced combat, and intricate puzzles while introducing new improvements for modern players. The remaster supports HD and 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, giving the game’s atmospheric visuals a sharper, more vibrant look.

The re-release also includes full save-anywhere functionality, optional visual filters inspired by old-school displays, and accessibility settings that make the experience more customizable. Players can view a gallery featuring artwork and materials from the original game, as well as activate cheats like infinite lives or invulnerability to adjust the difficulty to their liking.

Originally released in 2006, Scurge: Hive was praised for its unique infection timer mechanic, eerie sci-fi atmosphere, and challenging gameplay that evoked the spirit of classic Metroidvanias.
