Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut Heads to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC This December

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced that Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on December 8, 2025. The game already arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, launching on June 5.

A Definitive Version of the Prequel

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is described as the ultimate edition of the acclaimed prequel. Players take control of Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima as their paths intertwine in a gripping crime drama. The story is set in 1988 Japan, moving between Tokyo’s neon-lit Kamurocho and Osaka’s bustling entertainment district.

Fighting, Fun, and the 1980s

Combat remains at the heart of the experience. Kiryu and Majima each use three fighting styles, which players can switch between at any time. This flexibility allows newcomers to enjoy simple controls, while veterans can push for deeper combos. Fights feel more dynamic thanks to the mix of fists, improvised weapons, and cinematic finishers.

However, the game is not only about fighting. In addition, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut highlights the culture and chaos of 1980s Japan. Players can spend time in discos, arcades, karaoke bars, and cabaret clubs. As a result, the world feels both lively and immersive, offering plenty to do beyond the main story.

New Content in Director’s Cut

This edition adds exclusive content for longtime fans. New cutscenes provide more detail about key characters and expand on the events leading into the mainline series. Furthermore, an all-new online mode called Red Light Raid lets players team up with friends and choose from 60 characters to battle waves of enemies. SEGA confirmed this mode will unlock in a free update after launch.

Release Details

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut arrives on December 8, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version is already available. However, save data from earlier editions on PS4, Xbox One, or PC will not carry over. In addition, those versions cannot be upgraded to the Director’s Cut.

Overall, this release aims to deliver the best way to experience how Kiryu and Majima began their legendary journey through the underworld.
