NCSOFT has taken a bold step into the shooter genre with the reveal of Time Takers. Shown at Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live, the third-person survival shooter puts time itself at the center of combat.
The publisher, best known for MMORPGs like Guild Wars and Aion, surprised fans with two new shooter titles: Cinder City and Time Takers. Developed by Mistill Games on Unreal Engine 5, Time Takers stood out with its colorful style, quirky cast, and dynamic mechanics.
What is Time Takers?

At its core, Time Takers is a team-based survival shooter. Squads of three face off until only one remains. Instead of strict classes, players select “Time Travelers” from across eras. Each one brings a unique ability.
The roster spans wildly different characters, from medieval knights to futuristic fighters, and even a chimp in a spacesuit. However, what truly defines the game is Time Energy.

This resource is earned during matches and used to upgrade abilities, revive teammates, or extend survival. Because every second matters, players must decide whether to spend Time Energy right away or save it for later.
Gameplay Features

Unlike traditional hero shooters, Time Takers gives freedom to experiment. Players can equip any weapon and pair it with “apps,” passive or active abilities that completely alter playstyles. As a result, no two runs feel the same.
Some standout features include:
-
Team strategy counts: The right mix of abilities and timing can change everything.
-
Time Energy rules survival: Spend it to grow stronger or save it for revivals.
-
Flexible builds: Weapons and apps allow endless combat styles.
-
Era-spanning chaos: Fight across maps inspired by medieval castles, modern cities, and futuristic worlds.

Time Takers is already listed on Steam, and sign-ups for a playtest are open. While a release date has not yet been confirmed, NCSOFT revealed it will be free-to-play and include Korean voice-over.
Fans eager to join the fight can wishlist the game and sign up for the playtest on Steam or through their official website.
