The upcoming remake of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will require significantly more time to complete than players might expect. According to Nihon Falcom CEO Toshihiro Kondo, the remake takes about 80 hours to finish compared to just under 40 hours for the original 2004 version.
This full 3D remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky has been developed entirely by Nihon Falcom and will launch on September 19 for PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The increased playtime comes from several major additions that weren’t present in the original game.

Kondo explained in a recent interview with The Gamer that the extended length mainly comes from larger maps and new exploration elements. Players who explore all areas, listen to voiced dialogue, and complete every quest will find themselves spending twice as long in the game world. The CEO noted that modern players also tend to spend more time watching cutscenes and events, unlike the original where people often scrolled through text quickly to maintain a faster pace.
To prevent the larger world and additional content from making the game feel slow or tedious, the development team added instant fast travel and high-speed movement options. These features should help players navigate the semi-open world map without unnecessary delays.

For reference, Kondo mentioned that he personally spent about a week playing through the remake, while the main programmer who worked on the game took the full 80 hours to complete everything. The Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter remake launches on September 19 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
