Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Moves Up Release Date, Coming to China on June 19

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile is set to launch in China on June 19, 2025—about two months ahead of its original August release date. The updated release timeline was revealed through a promotional video posted on Chinese platform Bilibili, first spotted by GameSpark.

The mobile game is being developed by Tencent’s LIGHTSPEED Studios working together with Square Enix. It’s a standalone mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, the popular online role-playing game that first came out in 2013 and is still running on PC and game consoles. Naoki Yoshida, who directed and produced the original Final Fantasy XIV, is overseeing the mobile project to make sure it stays true to the main game’s vision.

The mobile version is designed for shorter gaming sessions that players can enjoy anywhere. It will keep important parts of the original game like story content, combat systems, and end-game activities. However, the mobile game is completely separate from the PC and console versions—players won’t be able to share progress or play together across different platforms.

China Gets First Access

Players in China can now pre-register for the game, but Square Enix hasn’t announced when Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will be available for release in other countries. The company is focusing on the Chinese market first, where Tencent’s strong presence gives them a good testing ground for bringing this type of game to mobile devices.

The mobile version will include content from “A Realm Reborn,” the game’s 2.0 release, featuring the original nine job classes and five playable races that were available at launch.

Pre-downloads for the game will start on June 17, with the full launch happening two days later on June 19. The game will be available on both Android and iOS devices. For now, players outside of China will have to wait for news about a global release date.
