The gala premiere of Ejen Ali The Movie 2 (EATM2) was held last night in a vibrant and festive setting at IOI City Mall, Putrajaya. The event marked a major milestone ahead of the film’s nationwide cinema release this Thursday.

Co-produced by Primeworks Studios and WAU Animation in collaboration with Komet Productions, the highly anticipated sequel aims to continue winning the hearts of fans of the beloved animated series.

The gala was attended by key figures including Nini Yusof, CEO of Media Prima Television Network and Primeworks Studios; Usamah Zaid Yasin, CEO of WAU Animation and director of EATM2; and Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar, Chief Explorer of Komet Productions. Also present were WAU Animation’s COO and EATM2 Executive Producer, Faiz Hanafiah, along with main voice cast members such as Ida Rahayu (Agent Ali), Noorhayati Maslini (Agent Alicia), and Azman Zulkiply (Rizwan).

Adding emotional depth to the evening, legendary artist Dato’ M. Nasir delivered a powerful live performance of the film’s official theme song, Hanya Kamu, stirring the crowd with a message of resilience and inner strength. A burst of nostalgia swept through the event as the viral fan-favorite Mamak Maju – from the first Ejen Ali film – made a surprise return in the form of a lively flash mob, injecting fun and excitement into the celebration.

Discussing Characters and Challenges

During a press conference following the screening, the voice actors shared their insights into character development and the recording process. Ida Rahayu, who voices Ejen Ali, noted the character’s evolution over time.

“Ali’s voice has matured, just like the character. It has shifted from a lower tone to a more grown-up voice, reflecting his age,” she explained. She emphasized that while the script provides structure, authentic emotions during recording sessions are key to delivering believable dialogue.

Azman Zulkiply spoke about the emotional transformation of his character, Rizwan.

“In the earlier seasons, Rizwan was more relaxed and even smiled. Now, he’s going down a darker path, which changes his tone – it’s deeper and more intense,” he said, humorously noting how close the microphone must be to pick up the subtle nuances of the performance.

Noorhayati Maslini, who voices Agent Alicia, discussed the challenge of portraying Alicia’s shifting personality.

“Alicia is typically serious in the series, but in this movie, she starts to open up – she laughs and smiles more. Sometimes it takes multiple takes to get the balance right,” she said, adding that the change reflects her evolving relationship with Ali, shaped by the many challenges they’ve faced together.

Hopes on the Films Success And A Third Installment 

Faiz Hanafiah expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support from fans and shared high hopes for the film’s success.

“We’re aiming for a box office performance that surpasses the first film – hopefully even doubling it to RM60 million. We encourage fans to watch it more than once and bring others along,” he said, while thanking the entire production team for their dedication.

When asked about the potential for a third installment, director Usamah Zaid Yasin responded with a smile, “We’d rather not wait another six years. We’ll try to move faster, depending on support from Media Prima,” referring to a post-credit scene that teases a possible continuation.

Potential Rizwan Spin-off

The Q&A ended on a high note with a playful question about a potential spin-off for Rizwan.

“If you ask me, I’d love to see that happen!” Azman replied with a laugh, suggesting the character still has more stories to tell.
