Older games often rely on outdated technology that their original creators can no longer update. To solve this problem, GOG uses its expertise in reviving and updating classic games, ensuring they stay compatible with current systems. As part of the GOG Preservation Program, each title undergoes rigorous testing and updates, improving compatibility and adding bonus content like manuals, DLCs, and more.

A key benefit of the program is the inclusion of offline installers, allowing players to keep their games independent of online services. GOG’s commitment to preservation extends to games no longer supported by their original publishers.

According to the Video Game History Foundation, 87% of games released before 2010 are no longer accessible. GOG’s goal is to reduce that figure to zero.

The company’s preservation efforts also include ongoing technical support, ensuring users can resolve any issues they encounter with these games.
