According to a report by lowyat.net, YouTube Malaysia is beginning to heavily enforce 3rd party ad blockers.
YouTube Malaysia seems to be implementing their no ad block policy with greater force now, with multiple users receiving warnings for using third party ad-block software.
There are currently reports of 2 different warnings being enforced.
The first warning simply warns the user about ad blockers not being allowed on YouTube, and users can simply dismiss the message with no consequences or restrictions to the service.
However, the second warning is less lenient, giving users 3 chances before blocking the video player, rendering YouTube useless until ad block is disabled.
This looks to be hitting users at random, as certain users are still able to use ad blockers without issue, but it may extend to all users eventually.
The reason for this enforcement is due to ad blockers causing YouTube and its creators to lose revenue, as advertisements are their main stream of income.
Moreover, ad blockers also take away from one of YouTube Premium’s main features, being ad-free videos.
This is not the first instance where YouTube has shown their displeasure with 3rd party software, as they have forced Discord to shut down RythmBot in the past.
